Allison Brooks Janney is a seven-time Primetime Emmy Award winner American actress born on November 19, 1959 in Ludlow Falls, Ohio U.S.A. She is the daughter of Macy Brooks (former actress) and Jervis Spencer Janney, Jr. (Jazz musician). She won four Emmy awards for her role as C.J. Cregg on the NBC drama The West Wing (1999-2006).
Janney in her early career got comedic roles in the soap operas As the World Turns (1956) and Guiding Light (1952). She has appeared in numerous films which includes- 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), American Beauty (1999), Big Night (1996), Private Parts (1997), Nurse Betty (2000), Winter Solstice (2004), Life During Wartime (2009), Days and Nights (2013), Get On Up (2014), Spy (2015).
In 2006, Janney was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her performance in the film Our Very Own. In 2007, she appeared in the Golden-Globe-nominated film, Hairspray, as Prudy Pingleton.
Janney has remained active in theater. She has played in a revival of Arthur Miller's "A View From the Bridge" on Broadway opposite Anthony LaPaglia, which earned her a Tony Award nomination, and a Drama League Award for outstanding artist for the 1997-98 season. In 2010, she appeared as Allison Pearson in "In Plain Sight". She starred in the ABC network comedy Mr. Sunshine.
Janney won two Emmy Awards in 2014 for her role the series Mom, opposite Anna Faris. She won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in "Masters of Sex".
Entertainment Weekly magazine describes Janney's screen presence as "uncommonly beautiful and infinitely expressive". As an actress, the magazine deems her to be "one to watch".
