Julie Fiona Roberts, born in Smyrna, Georgia, never dreamed she would become the most popular actress in America. She is an Academy Award-winning American film actress and former fashion model. As a child, due to her love of animals, Julia originally wanted to be a veterinarian, but later studied journalism. When her brother Eric achieved some success in Hollywood, Julia decided to try acting.

Her first break came in 1988 when she appeared in two youth-oriented movies Mystic Pizza (1988) and Satisfaction (1988). The movies introduced her to a new audience who instantly fell in love with this pretty woman. Julia's biggest success was in the signature movie Pretty Woman (1990), for which Julia got an Oscar nomination, and also won the People's Choice award for Favorite Actress. Even though Julia would spend the next few years either starring in serious movies, or playing fantasy roles like Tinkerbell, the movie audiences would always love Julia best in romantic comedies. In early 1993, she was the subject of a People magazine cover story asking, "What Happened to Julia Roberts?". With My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) Julia gave the genre fresh life that had been lacking in Hollywood for some time.

In 2001, she won critical acclaim and finally received a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Erin Brockovich. As of January 2006, Roberts's films have grossed $2.09billion at the American Box Office making her the biggest female movie star in history.

Roberts has a production company called Red Om Films ("Moder" spelled backwards; formerly "Shoelace Productions") and has given of her time and resources to Unicef as well as to other charitable organizations. In 2000, Julia narrated "Silent Angels", a documentary about Rett syndrome, which was shot in Los Angeles, Baltimore and New York. The documentary is designed to help raise public awareness about the disease.

She has been named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" a record-setting ten times. She maintains a close friendship with actress-activist Susan Sarandon. Julia is one of the most popular and sought-after talents in Hollywood.

Roberts became the highest-paid actress in the world, topping the Hollywood Reporter's annual power list of top-earning female stars for four consecutive years (2002-2005). As of 2007, Roberts' net worth was estimated around US$140,000,000. She was also the first actress to appear on the cover of Vogue and the first woman to land on the cover of GQ.
