Kylie Minogue Biography

Born in 1968, pop singer/actress Kylie Minogue first became a big star in her native Australia when she got cast in the hit soap opera Neighbours and recorded a cover of Little Eva?s ?The Loco-Motion.? The song launched Kylie?s recording career, which thrived in the U.K. throughout the nineties. The first single, ?You Should Be So Lucky,? from her 1988 debut, Kylie, shot to number one in the U.K. thanks to the vision of veteran pop producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman. A string of hits followed, including ?Hand on Your Heart? and ?Tears on My Pillow.? At this point in her career, Kylie projected a fresh-faced girl-next-door image in her videos, which were controlled and designed by her producers.

After Kylie released 1989?s Enjoy Yourself, she took back control of her own image and shed the wholesome look for something sexier. The video for ?Better the Devil You Know? from 1990?s Rhythm of Love gave the public its first taste of the new Kylie. It worked to boost her career even further, prompting critics to make comparisons between Kylie?s new direction and the early years of Madonna?s career. By 1991, Kylie was the only act in British pop-music history to have thirteen first releases all break the Top Ten. After 1991?s Let?s Get to It, which marked Kylies first foray into songwriting, she officially split with Stock, Aitken and Waterman and released two more albums, 1994?s Kylie Minogue (which coincided with a highly publicized relationship with INXS?s Michael Hutchence), and 1997?s Impossible Princess.

In 1999, Kylie made the move to Parlophone Records (the Pet Shop Boys? label) and began work on 2000?s Light Years. The album was a critical and commercial success. ?Spinning Around? hit number one in both the U.K. and Australia. In 2001, Fever was released giving Kylie her biggest hit to date - ?Can?t Get You Out of My Head.? When the album was released in America in 2002, Kylie finally got the breakthrough she?d been working towards for more than a decade. ?Can?t Get You Out of My Head? gave Kylie massive success in the U.S. The follow-up single, ?Love at First Sight,? was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2002.

In addition to her musical career, Kylie has continued acting in such films as Cut and Moulin Rouge! In 2003, Kylie introduced her own line of lingerie, entitled ?Love Kylie.?
